MP: Due to pop culture, detoxing is seen as many different things, and what it actually is can sometimes get lost in the noise. What exactly is detoxing?

MS: Detoxing is simply a systematic approach to help the body get rid of excess toxins, rest the digestion and immune systems, and revitalize the metabolism sequences. The intended results could lead to feeling healthier and more energized.

How is detoxing different than cleansing?

A right detoxing is more comprehensive and stricter in its approach. It is a toxin removal process that leaves the body in better health and feeling refreshed and restored on a deep cellular level.

Cleansing tends to focus more on digestive health and everyday detoxification. It is not usually as restrictive as detoxing, yet still provides the basic nutrients that the body needs to detoxify.

Why is detoxing important?

Detoxing has maintained its popularity as a health trend for years. It helps improve health and eliminate toxins from the body. Such toxins typically include pollutants, synthetic chemicals, heavy metals, and processed foods, which all negatively affect health. It often involves the use of diuretics, dietary supplements, minerals, teas, laxatives, and other foods and herbs with detoxifying impacts.

Who should detox and when?

The lack of a healthy diet could lead to a toxic body that manifests a variety of signs that a detoxing session is needed. These signs primarily include skin infections, allergies, and frequent colds, as well as other problems such as headaches, inability to feel rested after sleep, unexplained fatigue, low energy, constipation, and diarrhea.

There are many videos of people ‘detoxing’ online. They consume a diet consisting of nothing but water with cayenne peppers, some consume only juices, and others switch their entire diets around overnight. Is this necessary?

There are many common and popular detoxing methods and procedures online, but not all of them are necessarily beneficial or effective. As toxins enter our bodies in several ways, from the air we breathe to the food we eat and the liquids we drink, there are several ways to detox.

The essential component of any detox method is not to make a drastic change for your diet regimen, but to keep it simple with a commonsense approach. The most popular way to detox your body and start fresh is simply fasting, using some natural dietary supplements when needed. We recommend consulting your physician before adopting a drastic detox method such as replacing foods with only liquids, or when using detoxification remedies or synthetic laxatives.

Are drastic change detox methods, like those we just mentioned, harmful to our health?

Yes, some detoxes are unnecessary and ineffective. Extreme detoxing, even when you drastically restrict food intake, replace solid foods with liquids, or only drinking lots of water without needed nutrition, could have negative side effects on your health.

At Nupeutics Health, we believe that holistic health comes from joy, confidence, and understanding of yourself, your body, and how you need to live your best life. If you are concerned about supporting your health, you can make small changes in your daily routine that can create a huge impact on your general health.

You’re known for providing nine tweaks to one’s daily life to help avoid drastic changes. What are they and why are they important?

Small changes in our daily routine can make a huge impact on our health, as detoxing does not always have to be done through drastic methods or procedures. You can add 9 small tweaks to your daily routine to naturally start detoxing your body and mind:

Drink Lemon Water – this can reset the pH of the gut, improving digestion. Lemon water mimics the pH of anionic juices. Lemon water supports hydration and stimulates your digestive system to help prevent constipation.

Oil Pulling – maintaining proper hygiene is vital to keeping bad bacteria in the mouth from reaching the gut. Swishing coconut oil around in your mouth both forces these negative elements out of your palate and prevents them from reaching the gut after swallowing. Oil pulling also helps fight coffee and wine stains on your teeth.

Fruit and Herb Infused Water – adding fruits with antioxidants to your water can help flush out toxins in your body.  Many fruits can boost your metabolism and help with weight loss, so be sure to add in your raspberries, strawberries, tangerines, and any other delicious fruit. Pro tip: fruit can stay in the water for up to 12 hours.

Drinking Herbal Tea – drinking herbal tea can improve your digestion. It can help with upset stomach, insomnia, anxiety, and works to cleanse the liver. Liver support is essential for anyone looking to detox.

Eating Healthy Foods – now this one sounds like a no-brainer, but wholesome foods like fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins keep your body working at optimal levels. Fiber is just as important as protein! Make sure you incorporate fiber-rich foods to maintain healthy bowel movements. Try to stay away from processed sugar and reduce the amount of dairy, gluten, processed corn, and soy from your diet. Processed foods like these can be extremely hard on our gut and can cause inflammation throughout your body.

Exercise and Sweat – detoxing doesn’t always mean juicing and going on a rigorous diet. Exercising quickens breathing, promotes blood circulation, and increases sweat production. These promote the release of toxins. The more blood that is circulated through the body, the easier it is for the liver to do its job. Detox!

Get Out & Breathe That Fresh Air – we underestimate the importance of nature’s healing powers. Going outside and enjoying nature helps to keep us grounded. Don’t be afraid to take your shoes and socks off and get your feet involved!

Epsom Salt Baths – Epsom salt baths are a great way to end the day! Magnesium is the number one most deficient mineral and is necessary for several reactions in the body. Adequate magnesium levels are essential for sleep and stress management because magnesium helps your brain produce neurotransmitters that induce sleep and reduce stress. It also can help improve your bowel movements!

Supplements – supporting any deficiencies and giving an extra boost to your cleanse, all-natural herbal supplements are the perfect answer. Nupeutics Health offers Microbiome Master, Colon Master, Liver Detox, and a Master Cleanse Package that will boost your immunity and metabolism to detox healthily.

Beyond these nine tweaks, what can one do to detox and live a healthier life?

The liver is the body’s natural detoxification system. Its main function is to process toxins and convert them into non-harmful compounds that the body can either utilize or remove.

The crucial thing you can do to detox and live a healthier life is to take care of your liver and keep it healthy by maintaining a healthy diet.

Is there anything else you would like to share?

The key is moderation. It is important to maintain a healthy diet, regular exercise and not to pack your liver full of fat, sugar, or alcohol. And, if you need to detox, you should have realistic goals with a rational process that fits with your body’s general health and metabolism.
